Seasonal Allergies

  If you have been to the office recently, you may have been asked whether you suffer from a runny, stuffy nose, or watery, itchy eyes. These symptoms may not be severe in most people, but over time, uncontrolled allergy symptoms can lead to fatigue, irritability, difficulty sleeping, cognitive disturbance, headaches, and even infections that require antibiotics, and missed a day of work or school. The good news is that the symptoms of seasonal allergies can be managed by first identifying the possible allergens or season that triggers your symptoms and developing a preventive allergy program with your provider. A simple 25 minute scratch test, which is a covered benefit with most health plans, can identify which allergens are triggering a response in your body.

The treatments may vary and sometimes a combination of the following may improve your quality of life:
• Avoidance of the particular allergen when possible
• Simple nasal rinses with a Neti Pot or ocean nasal spray.
  This can be quite effective.
• Antihistamines
• Steroid nasal sprays
• Allergy Immunotherapy

If you feel that you are someone that suffers from allergies, and feel that it is affecting your quality of life in some way, schedule an allergy test and talk with your physician to develop a plan to get your symptoms under control, so that you can enjoy life without having to bother with a runny, stuffy nose, or watery, itchy eyes.
